Terms of use
Last updated 22 September 2026
These are the rules for using this website. They are written plainly rather than legally. By registering a school, volunteering as a mentor, or creating an account as a former student, you agree to them.
To be reviewed by a solicitor before any significant growth. They are a reasonable starting point, not a substitute for advice.
Who can use this
- Schools — through a named member of staff, once we have approved the school.
- Mentors — adults in work, training or education, who we have spoken to before listing.
- Former students — 18 or over, with a code from their school.
Accounts for former students are for over-18s only. If we find an account belongs to someone younger, we will close it and delete the information we hold about them.
What we ask of everyone
- Be honest about who you are and what you do.
- Use the directory to ask about work, study and getting started. Not to sell, recruit for a fee, or pitch anything.
- Do not pass anyone's contact details on to somebody else.
- Do not contact a mentor who has not offered a way to be contacted.
- Treat people as you would if you had been introduced by a mutual friend, because in effect you have been.
What we ask of mentors
- Answer honestly, including when the honest answer is discouraging.
- Say no when you do not have time. Nobody is counting, and no answer is better than a resentful one.
- You are giving your own view, not formal careers guidance, and not a promise of work.
- If a school student ever contacts you directly, or anything about an exchange concerns you, tell us.
Contact details
Mentors decide whether former students over 18 may contact them, and what to share. You can withdraw that at any time by emailing us and we will remove it.
Mentors' private contact records are never shown to schools or students, and the website cannot read them.
What we don't promise
- We cannot promise anyone a job, a placement or a reply. Mentors are volunteers.
- Information on this site about courses, grants and entry routes is written in good faith and dated, but rules and figures change. Always confirm with the official source before making a decision. We link to them on every page.
- We do not vouch for advice a mentor gives. It is their own experience, not ours.
Removing people
We can suspend or remove any account, school or mentor, without notice, if somebody is behaving in a way that puts others at risk or misuses the directory. We would rather explain than not, and normally will, but we are not obliged to.
Reporting something
If anything on this site or in an exchange through it worries you, email [email protected] and say so plainly. We would much rather hear about it early.
Your information
How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy notice.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update this page and change the date at the top. Substantial changes will be emailed to people they affect.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of Ireland.
